Koen van den Berg

Graduate Student Researcher at Flinders Medical Centre

February 2024 - August 2024

My time as a graduate student researcher at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) was packed with valuable learning opportunities. When I was not working on my own project, I was participating in other ongoing research. This experience not only enhanced my clinical knowledge but also significantly improved my problem-solving skills, both of which will be beneficial for my career as a researcher and clinician. Due to Adelaide’s popularity among trauma and orthopaedic fellows, it was a great opportunity to talk with many of the fellows and learn more about this field of medicine.

There was more to do in Adelaide than just research. My personal highlights during my time off included visiting the beautiful botanic gardens, taking daily sunset walks on Seacliff Beach, watching a footy match at Adelaide Oval, and surfing in Middleton. And this is just the tip of the iceberg of what Adelaide has to offer.

Looking back, I can confidently conclude that this experience was beneficial to both my professional and personal development. A short-term (or long-term) research period in Adelaide is something I would most certainly recommend!
